27th September 2013. It sounds like a normal date, right? Wrong. It promises to be a very exciting day for TV indeed thanks to Channel 4.
First up, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will be broadcast just 3 days after it’s premiere in the US. Brainchild of Joss Whedon, and based on Marvel’s own Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (which as you’ll remember from Avengers Assemble stands for Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division) and in particular focuses on Marvel movie-regular Agent Coulson (Clark Gregg). Yes, the one who died. Thanks to TV magic he will be back, and leading a crew of agents (including another Avengers Assemble star, Cobie Smulders) who will be investigating emerging cases of humans with superhuman capabilities. Early reviews say it is somewhere between Whedon’s own Buffy the Vampire Slayer and The X Files, which make it an interesting proposition.
But that’s not all.
We also have the much anticipated IT Crowd Special. A one-off return for Moss, Roy and Jen to the world of Reynholm Industries. Aside from it being the very last time the gang will unite, the plot is pretty much top secret at present. Regardless of what they get up to, it will be nice to be able to bid a proper adieu to the Graham Linehan penned comedy.
Thank you, Channel 4!
